Just last week it started with two new problems, one of them related to USB.įirst problem is that now after turning on the laptop and dock from full shutdown, the USB ports on the dock do not work! This morning it took me multiple shutdowns and unplugs of the power from the dock to get the USB ports to work. This Dell dock is continuing to find new ways to disappoint me.

I have no idea what happens but something turns off all USB ports at restart. It seems to be related to Windows 10 and how it instructs the docking station when I restart Windows 10. I'm waiting to see if IT can do that remotely. Only thing I can't do is update the BIOS of the laptop since it requires a password. I did all the usual things: update drivers for everything, update firmware on the docking station, tried flipping the USB-C plug, used the other USB-C socket on the laptop, nothing works. So it's either the laptop or Windows 10 but I can't find a way to fix it. Same exact docking station but with the old laptop I had absolutely no issues (it was 3 years old Dell Latitude 7000 series, can't remember exact number). Fix ix to remove the docking station cable from the laptop, wait a few seconds then plug it back in. If I restart Windows 10 (by clicking on Restart through Windows 10 start menu), all USB ports on the docking station do not work and are not recognized at all by Windows 10. On first power on of the laptop with the docking station connected over USB-C, everything works. There is one issue that is annoying me and company IT does not seem to know how to fix it. This is a new laptop provided by my workplace. I have a WD19TB docking station and Latitude 7410.
